Services Held in Loving Memory of Rev. George Paul Kornegay

Rev. George Paul Kornegay was born November 23, 1913 to the late Will and Sue Kornegay in Brent, AL. Rev. Kornegay knew that he had an anointing on his life at a very young age and was Baptized in youth, at his much loved Hopewell A.M.E. Zion Church where he proved to be a dedicated and trustworthy disciple. God visited His servant early one summer morning preceded by the angelic choir to greet young George with a melodious song. When God asked who will go, George responded (age 18 years), �Here am I Lord, send me.� and accepted God�s request to �Preach the Word�. God made a covenant with George that day; when you hear the angels singing that song again, your work on this earth is finished. On June 3, 2014 the angels visited Rev. Kornegay again, but this time they had been given a special assignment; to escort God�s anointed one to his home not made by man�s hands. God whispered the words to Rev. Kornegay that he had been working some 100 years to hear, �You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. There remaineth a rest. It�s time to go home.� Rev. Kornegay was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Minnie Sue Tubbs on August 9, 1932. They remained a cord of three strands (Husband-Christ-Wife) for approximately 70 years. To this union 12 children were born. Rev. Kornegay was a man of unwavering faith and spent his life obediently proclaiming the gospel. He was the under shepherd for Grove Hill, Cottage Hill and Marietta A.M.E. Zion Churches for over 50 years, as well as, Harris and Jones Chapel A.M.E. Zion churches for 15 years. He preached the gospel in season and out of season, oftentimes, having to walk and depend on the kindness of strangers to give him a ride in those early years. However, his desire to do God�s will and not his own, allowed him to become more than a conqueror. Rev. Kornegay was a pivotal figure in the A.M.E. Zion denomination, where he mentored many young, aspiring ministers of the gospel. He was lovingly known as �Big Daddy.� Rev. Kornegay is preceded in death by his beloved Minnie Sue; daughter, Gloria Jean; sons Arthur Paul, George Jr. and Earvin; grandson Brian Keith; Five brothers and three sisters. It is during our darkest moments that we must focus on the light. Rev. Kornegay leaves his greatest legacy, his immediate family to carry his beacon of light and live a life of love, peace and harmony: five sons: Arthur Lee and Joel of Chicago, IL, Benjamin (Brenda), Donald (Dorothy) and Ronnie of Brent, AL; three daughters: Dorothy of Chicago, IL, Annie of Brent, AL, and Donna (Charles) of Montevallo, AL; one sister Debbie (Duke) of Washington, DC; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
